Tesu from Sew Preeti Quilts

Mom asked me to make a quilt for a young girl. Of course I said yes.

What is her name, I asked. She did not know.

How old, I enquired. Not sure, she replied.

Orange, Pink and Sparkly

At this point, I gave up. There is only so much eye-rolling I can do. I set about picking fabrics. Since I knew nothing about the recipient, my aim was to please my mother.

I chose a simple block using cream, pink and orange fabrics.

A, B, Sea and YAY!!! from Sew Preeti Quilts

A is for Abacus.

Abacus is a bonus quilt made from leftover triangles while making the RSC blocks this year.  I made a total of 30 Sister's Choice blocks, resulting in 60 bonus blocks. In the pictures below you can see how the herd grew.

In the beginning

Red ones

Purple Ones

It grows!

Finished Flimsy

Baste, shall we?

Finished!!!

Since the leftovers triangles had bias edges the blocks are wonky which is just perfect for a baby quilt :-) Abacus finished at 39" by 41" and I am very happy with it.  Here are a few close ...

And, Ta-dah! A Quilt Kit from Wedding Dress Blue

Since I already have FOUR quilts in progress, I really should have used my extended sewing time today to work on them. And I did. A little.

But then I heard the call of the scraps. I received these beauties recently and even had an idea of what I wanted to do with them.

A whole lot of cutting later I had a pile of small pieces that will be thrown away.

And an entire quilt kit, ready to use. As soon as I finish at least one of the four. Probably…

The Positivity QAL - Layouts and Fabric Requirements from Sew Preeti Quilts

Paul: Vanilla or Chocolate?
Me: Must I choose?
Paul: Yes.
Me: Well, in that case Vanilla with Chocolate sauce.
Paul: BRAT!!!

When we describe anything as vanilla, it means plain, dull or lacking in imagination. However vanilla is a perfect plain canvas to build upon. Add warm chocolate sauce with a sprinkle of nuts and you have an ice-cream that is elevated beyond other fancy flavors. Have you considered adding chopped mango to vanilla ice-cream? You are welcome :-)

Such is this Plus block. Yes, it is plain. But that is exactly why there are so many layout possibilities.

Here is ...

Black And Bright Blocks from Wedding Dress Blue

The Black and Bright blocks are complete.

DSC01922

It was breezy out and I couldn’t get better pictures, but there are 9 in all.  Trying to decide what to do next.  Sashing and setting…borders?  I’ll share more when there is more to share.

Just a note, I did about 15% bright in the black/white blocks.  I tried 10% first, but it wasn’t quite enough.  This feels about right…

Garden Party from Sew Preeti Quilts

I have a new finish - Garden Party.

Garden Party

But first the back story.
In 2015, I made this quilt - Terrace Garden and set it aside.

Terrace Garden

Some time later, Paul asked me for a quilt.
Me: For?
Paul: Chad's wife has a new baby.
Me: Boy or Girl?
Paul: Girl.
I showed him Terrace Garden and he approved.
Chad was appreciative and sent this picture.

Such cuteness!!!

And that is the best thank you for a quilter - send them a picture of the quilt with the recipient!!!

Six years passed. I met Chad and his wife at ...

Sticks And Stones Blocks Finished from Wedding Dress Blue

You know how it is–You see an inspiring picture on the internet and, either you can’t find it again, or it has no website attached, or….well, the fact is that I am not sure how to get back to it.  But it was a really good idea.

20200324_082156.jpg

And here is my version, at least the blocks.  I call it Sticks and Stones.

I hope to get it laid out and assembled by the end of the week.

More information coming soon.
